Ffwrnes Gerdd (Furnace of Music) is an evocative series of short films featuring leading Welsh musicians including Angharad Jenkins, Bernard KilBride, Brychan Llyr, Cass Meurig Thomas, Gareth Bonello, Gareth Westacott, Gwenan Gibbard, Gwyneth Glyn Emyr, Huw Roberts, Katell Keineg, Kizzy Crawford, Lisa Jen Brown, Lowri Evans & Lee Mason, Mike Lease, Oliver Wilson-Dickson, Patrick Rimes, Richard James, Robert Evans, Ryland Teifi, Stephen Rees, Gwilym Bowen Rhys and Idris Jones.
Each musician speaks of their creative and musical journey, and plays or sings favourite pieces. Beautifully filmed at Fishguard bistro venue Ffwrn, the series has subtitles in English.
S4C screened the series as two one-hour specials on prime-time TV as part of a special week of folk programming, describing it as “an unforgettable visual and aural journey into the wonderful world of traditional Welsh folk”.
The film version of Ffwrnes Gerdd won a commendation award at the 4th International Folk Music Film Festival at Kathmandu, for Best Long Film.
The series formed part of a Trac Cymru project, and was created and co-produced by Gerard KilBride and Gethin Scourfield in partnership with S4C.
